EPO has issued in May 2025 a position paper on online sale of live pet animals & sale of auxiliary pet products  by e-commerce platforms.
In its position document, EPO calls for online sellers to be subject to the same provisions and regulations as traditional bricks-and-mortar retailers with regards to both the sale of live pet animals and the sale of auxiliary pet products. 

This is essential to maintain high standards of animal welfare but also to provide a level playing field to traditional retailers.
